Convergence [Artist - Joyce Chin; Writer - Gail Simone]
Witchblade, Magdalena and Vampirella are summoned by Lord Farrin, one of the oldest and strongest vampires. Completely bored, Lord Farrin has got into the habit of making his feeds in unusual and "fun" ways. On this occasion he has turned a troupe of circus performers into vampires, and they are guarding a group of innocent children. His offer of exchanging the children for Witchblade, Magdalena and Vampirella for his next meal is refused and they fight Lord Farrin and his circus vampires, defeating him through teamwork.
An interesting, albeit short, story superbly illustrated by Joyce Chin. Weak on plot and high on action this fourteen page story could have been told in eight to ten pages, but it would have been better as a twenty page story with a bit more interaction between the ladies concerned. All three have slight issues with each other, but this isn't used particularly until the last page when it gets a passing mention.
As a collaboration between publishing houses it isn't too bad an effort. As a vehicle for Joyce Chin's art it succeeds beyond expectation!
However I have to pass comment on the fact that there are SEVENTEEN variant covers for the Vampirella, Witchblade and/ or Magdalena collector to buy - plus an extra THREE covers if you also get the versions with the extra Tomb Raider story (which any true collector will do), making a grand total of TWENTY variant covers for one fourteen page, black and white story.
This would have cost you $478.85 to collect all the covers for this story...
I do feel that this is taking advantage of the comic book collector, which cheapens the whole comic book from a crossover collaboration between publishers to purely a money making exercise with little or no regard for the fans that keep the publishers in business.
