Vampirella: Silver Anniversary Collection
Issue 1 (January 1997)
Bad Girl Cover - Mark Beachum $2.50
Good Girl Cover - Jim Silke $2.50
- Vampirella: The Glorious Return of Sweet Baby Theda [José Gonzalez, art / Bill DuBay, story] (from Warren Vampirella #67 and #68)
Another series of repeats from the Warren era.
I have to say, I like the idea of having a Good Girl and a Bad Girl cover. It makes the concept of collecting all the variant covers a little more tolerable - and there are only two covers per issue!
Issue 2 (February 1997)
Bad Girl Cover - Mark Beachum $2.50
Good Girl Cover - Jim Silke $2.50
- Vampirella: The Beauty and the Behemoth [José Gonzalez, art / Bill DuBay, story] (from Warren Vampirella #72)
- Vampirella: The Blob Beast of Blighter's Bog [José Gonzalez, art / Bill DuBay, story (from Warren Vampirella #75)
Traditional fare of a couple of "classic" José Gonzalez illustrated stories.
Issue 3 (March 1997)
Bad Girl Cover - Mark Beachum $2.50
Good Girl Cover - Jim Silke $2.50
- Curse of the Pasha's Princess [José Gonzalez, art / Bill DuBay, story] (from Warren Vampirella #76)
- Down to Earth! [Mike Royer, art / Forrest J. Ackerman, story] (from Warren Vampirella #2)
It's nice to have a story from the very early years illustrated by someone other than José Gonzalez (yes, there were some stories not drawn by Pepe!).
The Ackerman/Royer story is told by Draculina (Vampirella's blond twin sister ...) and is about her first days on Earth leading up to the plane crash that launched the "real" Vampirella stories.
Issue 4 (April 1997)
Bad Girl Cover - Mark Beachum $2.50
Good Girl Cover - Jim Silke $2.50
- Slaves of the Alien Amazon [Pablo Marcos, art / Bill DuBay, story] (from Warren Vampirella #80)
- Vampirella and the Alien Amazon [Pablo Marcos, art / Forrest J. Ackerman, story] (from Warren Vampirella #81)
At last, a couple of great Warren Vampirella stories drawn by someone other than Pepe Gonzalez. I love the work of José 'Pepe' Gonzalez, but most of the reprints of Warren Vampirella stories focus on Gonzalez' work, and ignore the other artists who drew her; some of whom have become legends in their own right - such as Pablo Marcos!
