James V. West

James West is well known within his own particular circles, and has been producing comics for many years.

Those of you with fond memories of the 1960s and 1970s "underground" comics will have come across Vaughn Bode and Cheech Wizard (amongst other characters), and James' work is very reminiscent of Bode - both Vaughan and his son Mark. It has a fun and cheeky feel to it which just makes you smile! It is rare that a comic strip can inflict so much pleasure so easily!

His work has appeared in many small press publications and he has published quite a few comics via his Random Order Creations imprint. His artwork has also been used in several role-playing games such as Trollbabe, The Shadow of Yesterday, and Donjon.

So far as I can tell, James has only ever done one rendition of Vampirella, and the picture below really expresses his sense of fun.

I saw this on eBay, instantly fell in love with it and just had to have it!

It now has pride of place on my wall and I can't look at it without smiling! I have used it as part of the design of this site as I feel it makes a wonderful counterpoint to the often more "serious" bad-girl image of Vampirella.
